MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Slovakia is facing security and destabilization threats from forces responsible for similar events in other countries, such as Georgia, European Parliament member Katarina Roth Nevedalova has told TASS.
Commenting on reports about "foreign experts" and their activities in her country, she said: "This is a question of national security, and we are in the process of assessing the situation. At this point, any further details are being kept confidential."
"However, we believe that there is a serious threat of destabilization in Slovakia, and that those who played a role in certain recent events in other countries, such as Georgia, are active on our territory as well," said the Slovak politician, who is a member of Prime Minister Robert Fico’s Direction - Slovak Social Democracy party.
"Tomorrow, the [national] security council will convene, and, if approved, a public statement with new details may be issued," she added.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico had called an emergency meeting of the republic’s Security Council after security services received intelligence about an impending coup d’etat with the involvement of "foreign experts" who helped launch the color revolutions in Georgia and Ukraine. According to him, foreign "specialists" have already arrived in Slovakia. He said that attempts to overthrow legitimate authorities may be carried out by organizing street protests and taking over administrative buildings.
