TBILISI, November 28. /TASS/. The Georgian authorities plan to restore the country’s territorial integrity in a peaceful way, Acting Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
"Our other main task is to restore territorial integrity in a peaceful way. Of course, the achievement of this goal depends on global trends, processes in the region. We very much hope that <...> this task will be fully accomplished," he said at the parliament during the government approval procedures.
In August 2008, an armed Georgian-South Ossetian conflict broke out after Georgian troops attempted to take control of Tskhinval. Russia deployed troops on August 8 to protect Russian citizens as well as its peacekeepers stationed in the region, resulting in the Georgian troops retreating. On August 26, 2008, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
