China-Russia cooperation to help avoid global crisis, Chinese expert says

Zhang Hong clarified that Beijing and Moscow maintain contact through various channels, yielding specific results due to their strong mutual trust

BEIJING, November 13. /TASS/. Close contacts between China and Russia across a range of areas allow the two countries to stabilize the situation in the region and prevent a global crisis, a research fellow at the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhang Hong said.

"China and Russia, both permanent members of the UN Security Council and major world powers, are joining hands to uphold world peace, stability and security. Their strategic mutual trust and close coordination can help stabilize the region and avoid global crisis," the Global Times cited the expert's remarks on the current visit of Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu to China.

The political expert clarified that Beijing and Moscow maintain contact through various channels, yielding specific results due to their strong mutual trust. China supports Russia on multilateral platforms such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), he noted.

The European Union is concerned about the close partnership between China and Russia, as it "may pose a challenge to the West-dominated world order," Zhang Hong pointed out. The expert recalled that China-Russia relations feature non-confrontation and non-targeting of any third party, and this is the right way for major states to get along with each other.

According to Sun Xiuwen, an associate professor at the Institute for Central Asian Studies (ICAS) of Lanzhou University (Northwest China), the cooperation between China and Russia has great prospects in the economy, energy and security.

The coordinated actions of China and Russia in multilateral formats help "amplify the voice of non-Western countries, promote multipolarity," she emphasized. The expert also expressed confidence that close cooperation between Beijing and Moscow will persist, despite significant changes on the international stage.
