Israel delivers strikes on 30 Gaza targets over past day — army

TEL AVIV, April 5. /TASS/. Israeli military forces have delivered strikes on 30 targets of Palestinian radicals in the Gaza Strip over the past day, the army’s press service reported.

According to its statement, the strikes, carried out by the Israeli Air Force, hit military targets, underground tunnels, command centers, weapons depots, and a number of other infrastructure objects used by the radicals.

In addition, the Israeli army recorded rocket attacks on the cities of Sderot and Ashkelon in the south of the country in the evening and responded with airstrikes on launch sites in the enclave.

Active operations by the Israeli army continue in the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, where tanks of the Israeli Defense Forces destroyed a number of underground objects used by the radicals, according to the press service. Ground and air units also killed a number of radicals over the past day, added the army.

The situation in the Middle East escalated sharply on October 7, 2023, after militants from the Palestinian radical movement Hamas breached into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, resulting in the killing of residents of border towns and the capture of over 240 hostages. The radicals described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and started carrying out airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave, as well as on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria, followed by a ground operation in the enclave. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank of the Jordan River.
