Poland to double contribution to Czech initiative on ammunition for Kiev — top diplomat

Radoslaw Sikorski announced during a visit to the US on March 12 that Poland was joining the Czech Republic's initiative to buy 800,000 artillery rounds for Ukraine from third parties

VILNIUS, March 27. /TASS/. Warsaw will double the funds it will allocate to the Czech initiative to procure ammunition for Ukraine from third countries, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said.

"A decision was made in the past 48 hours to double our contribution to the Czech initiative," the top Polish diplomat said. However, he did not disclose how much exactly this would be.

Sikorski announced during a visit to the US on March 12 that Poland was joining the Czech Republic's initiative to buy 800,000 artillery rounds for Ukraine from third parties. The Polish foreign minister declined to specify the size of the contribution his country planned to make, saying that it was significant.

Czech President Petr Pavel stated at the Munich Security Conference on February 17 that Prague had found a way to procure hundreds of thousands of artillery shells for Kiev from third countries provided there were enough funds to implement the initiative. Politico, in turn, wrote that Prague, upset by the EU’s failure to fulfill its promise to send one mln rounds to Ukraine between March 2023 and March 2024, had demanded that Brussels start purchasing ammunition for Ukraine all over the world, particularly in Turkey, South Africa and South Korea.
