French politician acknowledges Crimea as historical part of Russia

Jordan Bardella added that the peninsula has been Russia’s territory throughout its history

PARIS, March 22. /TASS/. Crimea is Russian in all ways, culturally and historically, leader of the National Union party, MEP Jordan Bardella said.

"Crimea is obviously Russian from the point of view of history and culture," the politician said on the France Info radio station, answering the host’s question about whether he considers Crimea to be part of Russia. Bardella added that the peninsula has been Russia’s territory throughout its history.

March 16, 2024 marked the 10th anniversary of the referendum on reunification with Russia in Crimea and Sevastopol against the background of the coup in Ukraine. 96.7% and 95.6% of the voters of Crimea and Sevastopol voted for reunification with Russia, respectively. On March 18, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an agreement on the admission of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation, and on March 21 the document was ratified by the Federal Assembly.
