European Commission launches maritime humanitarian corridor from Cyprus to Palestine

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron announced that the UK will work together with the US on shipment of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through the new maritime corridor

BRUSSELS, March 8. /TASS/. The European Commission announced the opening of a maritime humanitarian corridor for shipment of aid to Palestine from Cyprus, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced.

"Europe is financing a major humanitarian aid effort for Palestinians, €250 million euros this year alone. But the key challenge is getting this aid to people in Gaza," she said on her X page. "This is why we’re launching the Cyprus Maritime Corridor, with the US and UAE.".

United Kingdom

The UK will work together with the US on shipment of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through the new maritime corridor, the UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron announced.

"People in Gaza are in desperate humanitarian need. Alongside the US, the UK and partners have announced we will open a maritime corridor to deliver aid directly to Gaza," he said on his X page. "We continue to urge Israel to allow more trucks into Gaza as the fastest way to get aid to those who need it."

On March 7, US President Joe Biden announced that Washington will establish a temporary port in the Gaza Strip for delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave by sea. Previously, a high-ranking Administration official told reporters that the humanitarian aid will be delivered through Cyprus.
