UK doesn’t plan to send troops to Ukraine — PM’s spokesman

The spokesman said the UK continues to support Ukraine with military aid and training Ukrainian servicemen

LONDON, February 27. /TASS/. The UK has no plans to send troops to Ukraine, a spokesman for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said in comments on reports that EU and NATO countries are considering this option.

"Beyond the small number of personnel we do have in country supporting the armed forces of Ukraine, we haven't got any plans for large-scale deployment," the spokesman said, Reuters reported.

The spokesman said the UK continues to support Ukraine with military aid and training Ukrainian servicemen. At the end of last year, the country's Defense Minister Grant Shapps mentioned the possibility of sending British military instructors to Ukraine, but Sunak later said that there were no plans to do this in the near future. Earlier, the British media reported several times that small groups of UK special forces trained Ukrainian soldiers in that country.

On 26 February, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said some EU and NATO member states were considering sending their troops to Ukraine on the basis of bilateral agreements with Kiev. French President Emmanuel Macron also said this was not ruled out. The next day, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO had no such plans. Similar statements were made by the heads of government of Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden and the Hungarian Foreign Minister.
