Israeli foreign minister accuses UN of cooperating with Hamas

Israel Katz went on to say that ignoring the war crimes that were committed by Hamas is a "stain" on the UN and its secretary general

TEL AVIV, February 25. /TASS/. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has accused the UN of collaborating with Hamas after more than 30 UN rights officials called for an end to supplying arms to Israel.

"Rapporteurs of the UN Human Rights Council published a report that calls for an arms embargo on Israel. Since the October 7 massacre, the United Nations has been cooperating with Hamas terrorists and trying to harm the right of the State of Israel to defend itself and its citizens," Katz said in a statement.

He went on to say that ignoring the war crimes that were committed by Hamas is a "stain" on the UN and its secretary general.

The UN rights officials on February 23 called for halting weapons supplies to Israel and Hamas. They warned in a statement that government officials involved in arms exports could be individually criminally liable for aiding and abetting any war crimes. The people who backed the statement included UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese and a team of 30 rights experts.

The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated following an incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7. Hamas has cast the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel has declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and started a military operation there. Israel also strikes parts of Lebanon and Syria in retaliation for bombardments originating from these countries. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
