EU defense commissioner to become 'watchdog' for Ukraine, Russian diplomat says

According to Konstantin Gavrilov, this is probably what Jens Stoltenberg will be assigned to do

MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. The European Union’s future defense commissioner will be acting as a "watchdog" keeping an eye on Ukraine, Konstantin Gavrilov, Russia’s chief delegate to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control, said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

Gavrilov was asked about the proposal made by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for establishing the post of European Commissioner for Defense.

"A watchdog keeping an eye on Ukraine," Gavrilov said in response to the anchor's question about what the defense commissioner's duties would include. "This is probably what Jens [Stoltenberg] will be assigned to do. They are making a slave out of Ukraine. They are in a hurry to do so because Jens is leaving (the post of NATO secretary general - TASS)," Gavrilov pointed out.

Ursula von der Leyen told the Munich Security Conference, said that the post of European Commissioner for Defense should appear in the next European Commission for the first time in EU history.
