DUBAI, January 12. /TASS/. Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip killed dozens of people in the past day, Palestine’s WAFA news agency reported.
According to the media outlet, 30 bodies were brought to morgues in the city of Khan Yunis following bombardments. The agency added that Israeli aircraft targeted downtown Khan Yunis, while the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shelled ambulance and rescue teams assisting the wounded and pulling bodies from under the rubble.
Israeli airstrikes also killed nine people in a residential area east of the city of Rafah in southern Gaza. At least five people were killed in attacks on the Al-Mashala neighborhood west of the city of Deir al-Balah in the central part of the enclave.
The news agency points out that over 23,500 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip, and 56,000 have suffered wounds. Almost 8,000 people are considered missing.
Tensions in the Middle East flared up again on October 7 after militants from the radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, killing residents of border communities and taking people hostage. Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and started carrying out strikes targets in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria.
