DUBAI, December 25. /TASS/. There are some 50,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip, with more than 180 giving birth every day, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) wrote on X (former Twitter).
"There are an estimated 50,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip, with over 180 giving birth every day," UNRWA said in a statement. The UN Palestinian refugee agency added that its doctors and midwives "are doing everything possible to provide care for post-natal and high-risk pregnant women at the 7 operational UNRWA health centers."
Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 after Gaza Strip-based Hamas militants launched a surprise incursion on Israeli territory, killing many Israeli kibbutz residents living near the Gaza border and abducting more than 200 Israelis, including women, children and the elderly. Hamas described its attack as a response to Israeli authorities’ aggressive actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City.
