DUBAI, December 11. /TASS/. The Conference of the Parties (COP), the governing body of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, has named Azerbaijan as the host country of the next summit at a plenary meeting, TASS reports.
On December 9, Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said a "general consensus" had been reached on the republic's candidacy to host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change next year.
Azerbaijan's bid required the support of members of the Eastern Europe group participating in COP28. At a meeting of the regional bloc held within the framework of the conference, the countries supported Azerbaijan's candidacy. Earlier, Armenia withdrew its candidacy to host COP29 to pave they way for Azerbaijan.
