Estonia’s ruling Reform Party leads after 92% of online-cast votes counted — report

Before the online votes came in, the Conservative Party was in the lead, the report says

VILNIUS, March 6. /TASS/. Estonia’s ruling Reform Party, led by Kaja Kallas, is leading after 92% of online-cast votes for the parliamentary election has been counted, the Postimees reported Monday.

According to the report, the party gets 32% of votes, followed by the Conservative People’s Party (16%), and the Center Party (14%), as well as the Eesti 200 (14%), the Social Democratic Party (9%) and the Isamaa Party (8%). Other parties are unable to pass the 5% threshold.

Before the online votes came in, the Conservative Party was in the lead, the report says. About 314,000 people voted online, marking the first time this number exceeded the number of people who cast their vote in a traditional manner (almost 302,000 people).

The parliamentary election took place on Sunday. Over 615,000 Estonians out of about 966,000 eligible to vote cast their ballot, making the voter turnout one of the highest in history - 63.7%. A total of 968 candidates from nine political parties, as well as independent ones, run for 101 seats in the parliament.
