Denmark won’t comment on Nord Stream probe until it has smoking gun — Danish Navy Chief

According to Jens Wenzel Kristoffersen, tentative or uncorroborated findings "could lead to reactions which would not be helpful at this point of time"

NEW YORK, October 26. /TASS/. Denmark will make a statement on its investigation into the explosions at the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines only after investigators have clear-cut evidence in this case, Jens Wenzel Kristoffersen, a commander in the Danish Navy, told the New York Times newspaper.

"There is a lot of secrecy still going on. The reason is simply because they [investigators - TASS) have to be absolutely sure. When they have results, they have to be based on quite hard-core facts and not just speculation," he said.

He added that the Danish authorities will not make any statements on the investigation "until they have this smoking-gun evidence."

According to Kristoffersen, tentative or uncorroborated findings "could lead to reactions which would not be helpful at this point of time."

On September 26, operator Nord Stream AG reported that three lines of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 offshore gas pipelines had suffered unprecedented damage. The first leak was identified on Nord Stream 2 near the Danish Island of Bornholm. Then two leaks were recorded at Nord Stream. Swedish seismologists later reported that two explosions had been recorded along the Nord Stream pipelines on the previous day. President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, branded the incident as "sabotage," stressing that this sort of "deliberate disruption would result in the strongest possible response."

Meanwhile Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the situation on the West, where they had "actually began to destroy the pan-European energy infrastructure.".
