Chief of Belarusian KGB says West makes steps to shatter CSTO, hampers development of EAEU

Ivan Tertel said a "redivision of the world is underway"

MINSK, October 13. /TASS/. Ivan Tertel, chairman of the Belarusian State Security Committee, also known as the KGB, has said the West is trying to break up the Collective Security Treaty Organization and hamper the development of the Eurasian Economic Union.

"We note that the West has focused on preventing the goals of creating a competitor in the post-Soviet space from being realized. In fact, there is a process aimed at the breakup of the CSTO, and serious measures are being taken to prevent such an integration formation as the EAEU from being successful," the KGB chairman was quoted as saying by the BelTA news service.

Tertel said a "redivision of the world is underway."

"The world will not be different. The goal of the West is to maintain its position. Everything that we see in Ukraine is one of the stages of these measures," he said.

Also, the head of the KGB said "the main events are now developing in the Pacific area, where a serious bloc against China is being formed, and China knows this."

With respect to Belarus, Tertel said, the goals of the West are simple: to force the country to change geopolitical priorities and stand in line with its satellites from Eastern Europe.
