Opposition activists, police scuffle in front of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry

Since Monday, acts of rebellion and blocking of streets have continued in Yerevan and in various regions of the country

YEREVAN, May 4./TASS/. Opposition activists broke through a police cordon in front of the building of the Armenian Foreign Ministry and hoisted the flag of Artsakh (unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) up the flagpole at the ministry premises. The protests are broadcast by local news portals.

Police and participants in the action clashed when opposition activists were breaking through the police cordon. "This way we will once again show that Artsakh is the Armenian land," said one of the leaders of the rally, parliament’s deputy speaker from the opposition Ishkhan Saghatelyan.

After negotiating with the police, opposition activists installed the flag of Nagorno-Karabakh in the Foreign Ministry’s building and continued their march through central Yerevan.

Earlier, protesters got together in front of the parliament building, where Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was at the moment, and demanded his resignation.

The opposition supporters blocked the Square of France late on Sunday, where they set up barricades from waste containers and street benches, as well as pitched tents. Acts of rebellion and blocking of streets have continued in Yerevan and in various regions of the country since Monday.
