BELGRADE, March 7. /TASS/. Serbia does not change its position and refuses to impose sanctions on Russia despite the West’s pressure, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters on Monday.
"As far as sanctions against Russia are concerned, we have already taken our decision," the Serbian leader noted.
Earlier, Vucic said that the West was putting unprecedented pressure on him after Serbia’s decision not to impose sanctions against Russia over the situation around Ukraine. Previously, President said in an address to the nation that Serbia supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity, though it would not slap sanctions on Russia. Vucic added that Serbia would stop army and police drills with all foreign partners. He noted that the country regarded both Russia and Ukraine fraternal countries, regretted what was happening in Europe’s east, and it was ready to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in Ukraine, stressing that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. Western countries responded to the actions of the Russian authorities by slapping sanctions against physical and legal entities.
