BRUSSELS, March 15. /TASS/. The list of members of the Syrian Constitutional Committee has been agreed almost in full, and the committee will be formed in the near future, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin told reporters on Thursday evening.

"We are now close to full agreement of those lists," he said, answering to a TASS reporter’s question at a conference to sum up the results of the International Donor Conference on Syria, held in Brussels on March 12-14.

"Without disclosing all details of the ongoing political and diplomatic process, I can say that we made serious progress toward forming the Syrian constitutional committee as soon as possible," the senior Russian diplomat added.

According to Vershinin, the United Nations, Washington and other delegations present in Brussels favored soonest launch of the committee’s work.

"We had detailed consultations with [UN Syria envoy Geir] Pedersen, I also met with US Special Representative [for Syria Engagement] James Jeffrey, I also met with a number of delegations. All of them stressed the need to launch this constitutional committee as soon as possible," he said.

The decision to create the constitutional committee was made at the Congress of the Syrian National Dialogue in Sochi on January 30, 2018. The committee is expected to include delegates from the Syrian government, the opposition and the civil society.
