MOSCOW, May 4. /TASS/. Vladimir Putin has dismissed Sergey Melikov from his position as head of the Republic of Dagestan.
"To accept the resignation of Sergey Melikov, Head of the Republic of Dagestan, at his own request," the published decree states. The document also appoints Fyodor Shchukin as acting head of the region.
Melikov had led the region since October 5, 2020, serving as acting head until October 14, 2021.
Prior to that, he held several positions, including senator, first deputy director of the Russian National Guard, and presidential plenipotentiary representative in the North Caucasus. He also served in the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR and later of Russia.
