‘Golden hour’ to rescue people in Myanmar almost over

A rescuer from the Tsentrospas squadron Grigory Korolkov emphasized that 'the crucial factor in rescue operations is time'

MANDALAY /Myanmar/, April 2. /TASS/. The "golden hour" for rescuing survivors after the powerful earthquake in Myanmar’s Mandalay is nearly over, with chances of extracting living victims from the rubble diminishing daily, according to Grigory Korolkov, a rescuer from the Tsentrospas squadron who spoke to TASS.

Korolkov emphasized that "the crucial factor in rescue operations is time." He explained that "while the golden hour is passing fast - statistically speaking, you might find 50 survivors on day one, 10 on day two, perhaps two on day three, and maybe one on day four - we never abandon hope. Our mission is to exhaust every possibility, however slim. That's the fundamental principle of all rescue work."

Meanwhile, Viktor Belinsky, head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry's mobile hospital in Mandalay, reported that their facility has treated more than 30 patients in the past two days. "Our team has provided medical assistance to over 30 individuals affected by the earthquake," Belinsky stated, adding that "this includes both direct trauma cases and patients redirected from overwhelmed local medical facilities."
