US deports person wanted in Russia for robbery

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. A man wanted by Russia, including via Interpol, for robbery causing $1.5 million in damages has been deported from the United States, where he had been hiding after committing the crime, Russian Interior Ministry Spokeswoman Irina Volk reported.

"Today, the individual involved in the robbery was handed over to the Russian Interior Ministry's NCB Interpol officers in the Arab Republic of Egypt. He was deported from the United States with an American convoy," she wrote on her Telegram channel.

Volk added that while evading prosecution, the defendant left Russia and was placed on the international wanted list via Interpol. "Russian Interpol Bureau officers worked on information regarding the possible presence of the wanted individual in the United States. Through cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies, he was detained," the spokeswoman explained.

According to the investigation, the attacker, acting within an organized group, participated in a robbery at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo airport in 2014, targeting three citizens. The accomplices used law enforcement uniforms and firearms. The damage caused to the victims amounted to $1.5 million, Volk said.

A criminal case was opened under part 4 of article 162 of the Russian Criminal Code. In the near future, the alleged robber will be transferred to Moscow.
