Sixty-six temperature records set on April 2 across Great Russian Plain

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Sixty-six separate temperature records were set on April 2 across the expanse of the Great Russian Plain, which stretches from the Ural mountains to the Baltic Sea.

The highest temperature was recorded in Dzhankoi, Crimea, at 31 degrees Celsius (87.8 degrees Fahrenheit), Evgeny Tishkovets from the Phobos weather center told TASS.

"The past day was marked by another series of unprecedented [warming] in early April, unseen in the entire history of regular meteorological measurements. On the Russian Plain, 66 temperature records were set, 17 of them in Russian regional centers. The highest temperature was recorded in Crimea, in Dzhankoi: 31 degrees Celsius," he said.

A record was also set in Moscow, as the temperature soared to 23.2 degrees Celsius (73.76 degrees Fahrenheit). The previous record for this date was set in 1951 at 17.4 degrees Celsius (63.32 degrees Fahrenheit), Tishkovets added.

The low temperature in Moscow overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday dropped to 13.7 degrees Celsius (56.66 degrees Fahrenheit). According to the meteorologist, such a temperature can be called summer-like. "In Moscow right now it's around 15 degrees Celsius [59 degrees Fahrenheit]. The sky is 100% covered with high cumulus clouds at an altitude of over 2,500 m. No precipitation. Visibility is 20 km. Humidity is 56%. Atmospheric pressure is low - 730.5 mm Hg," Tishkovets added.
