Finnish government’s decision to close checkpoints on border with Russia appealed in court

It is noted that the appellants are Finnish citizens of Russian descent or their family members

HELSINKI, December 27. /TASS/. The Finnish government’s decisions to close crossings on the border with Russia have been appealed in the country’s Supreme Administrative Court, the Yle website reported.

According to the appellants, "the decisions to close the eastern border violate their freedom of movement and many other fundamental rights" as well as "the ban on discrimination." The appellants are seeking to overturn the rulings to shut down the checkpoints, arguing that they are in contravention of the Finnish constitution.

According to Yle, the appellants are Finnish citizens of Russian descent or their family members.

Earlier, the Finnish government decided to close all vehicle checkpoints on the Finnish-Russian border from December 15 to January 14, due to the influx of refugees from third countries.
