Some 9,000 corruption suspects stood trial in 2023 — Russian chief investigator

According to Alexander Bastrykin, the majority of cases were launched on charges of bribery and fraud

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Almost 9,000 corruption suspects were brought before the court in the first nine months of 2023, Russian Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin has told TASS in an interview.

"Over the first nine months of 2023, a total of 7,949 criminal cases against 8,898 individuals have been sent to court," he said.

In his words, the majority of cases were launched on charges of bribery (5,353 cases or 67%) and fraud (1,021 cases or 13%).

A total of 118 related cases against 371 members of organized criminal groups have been investigated.
