Georgian foreign ministry condemns pressure on its diplomats abroad

According to earlier reports, Georgia’s ambassadors to Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands, the United States tendered their resignation amid protests in Tbilisi

TBILISI, December 1. /TASS/. Georgina foreign ministry has lambasted pressure on Georgian diplomats abroad as inadmissible.

"The Georgian foreign ministry condemns pressure exerted on its diplomatic corps and calls for sabotage. Attempts at interfering into the operation of institute of a sovereign state are inadmissible," it said.

The ministry stressed that the country’s authorities have always been committed to their obligations under the association and free trade zone agreements with the European Union. "Georgia will continue the irreversible process of the integration with the European Union, which is based on the association agreement, to be better prepared for swift talks on its membership in the EU in the future," it added.

According to earlier reports, Georgia’s ambassadors to Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands, the United States tendered their resignation amid protests in Tbilisi.

Another wave of protests was sparked by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's statement on November 28 when he said that the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party had decided to postpone any talk about launching accession negotiations until late 2028 and decline any funding from the European Union. According to the premier, the decision comes after repeated attempts by the EU to blackmail Georgia with promises of launching the talks in exchange for Tbilisi revoking certain laws passed by the country’s parliament.
