Ukrainian authorities say 1,000 civilians may remain in Artyomovsk

Artyomovsk, located in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), is an important transport hub in terms of Ukrainian military supplies

MADRID, March 13. /TASS/. As many as 1,000 civilians may still be in the city of Artyomovsk (called Bakhmut in Ukraine), Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Irina Vereshchuk said.

"There may be 1,000 adults left [in the city] but we don’t know about children," she said in an interview with Spain’s El Pais newspaper published on Monday.

According to her, Kiev appreciates the West’s assistance but needs more weapons and ammunition. "I am less concerned about the number of troops than I am about the need for more weapons," the Ukrainian deputy prime minister noted.

Artyomovsk, located in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), is an important transport hub in terms of Ukrainian military supplies. Heavy fighting is raging for the city. According to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service, the city’s population exceeded 71,000 people as of January 1, 2022.
