First span of Crimean Bridge’s railway part installed — Deputy Prime Minister

It was added that the installation of the second span is scheduled for April

MOSCOW, March 9. /TASS/. The installation of the first of two new spans for the railway part of the Crimean Bridge has been completed, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said on Thursday.

"The new railway span was delivered to the installation site in the Kerch Strait with the help of two barges. The span weighing about 200 tons was lifted by two assembly units to a height of 27 meters and then lowered to the design position. Thus, by now we have completed half of the main work on the restoration of railway traffic across the Crimean Bridge," Khusnullin said as quoted in a statement by the Federal Road Transport Agency (Rosavtodor).

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the installation of the second span is scheduled for April.

"Before the end of April, we are to transport the new span to the installation site and install it in the design position. After that, the specialists will begin to install assembly joints, expansion dams, the superstructure of the track, install engineering systems and lighting," Khusnullin explained.

Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister reported that the restoration of the railway part of the Crimean Bridge is expected to be completed in July 2023.

On October 8, a truck was blown up on the Crimean Bridge. Several cisterns of a passing truck caught fire. Three people died. Two spans of the automobile part of the bridge towards the peninsula collapsed. Railway traffic on the Crimean bridge has now been restored. On February 23, motor traffic on both parts of the Crimean bridge was launched.
