Meta’s actions infringe upon Russians’ interests — expert

It is stated that making posts on social networks owned by this company can be placed on the same footing as participation in an extremist organization

MOSCOW, January 27. /TASS/. The actions of the Meta corporation (recognized as extremist in Russia, owing Facebook and Instagram social networks that are outlawed in Russia) are fostering the spread of propaganda and fuel hatred and intolerance against Russians, Rustan Sagdatulin, director general of the Regional Public Center of Internet Technologies, told TASS on Friday.

"In its policy, Meta doesn’t have an equitable and neutral position toward the parties to the conflict. It willfully acts in the interests of one side and deliberately discredits and infringes upon the interests of the other side. Such actions have a negative effect, from spreading bogus stories to instigating hatred and intolerance towards Russians," he said, commenting on Meta’s excluding the Azov military unit (recognized as terrorist in Russia) from the list of dangerous persons and organizations.

According to Sagdatulin, making posts on social networks owned by this company can be placed on the same footing as participation in an extremist organization.

The Washington Post reported earlier, citing Meta, that the company had excluded Azov from its list of dangerous individuals and organizations, allowing Azov fighters to have accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
