Court remands in custody Moscow resident accused of funding Ukrainian extremists

According to the available evidence, Mikhail Kavun handed to the extremist organization no less than 120,000 rubles

MOSCOW, April 21. /TASS/. A court in Moscow has remanded in custody a Moscow resident, accused of financing the Ukrainian extremist organization Right Sector. The man, Mikhail Kavun, 61, was detained in Astrakhan and brought to Moscow for investigation, the press service of the Savyolovsky court said.

"The Savyolovsky district court of the city of Moscow has turned down a request filed by the accused, M.M. Kavun and his lawyer for a restrictive measure other than deprivation of freedom, including house arrest. Kavun, charged of committing a crime envisaged by part 1 of article 282.3 of the Criminal Code, has been remanded in custody till June 18," the court’s press-secretary Maria Mikhailova told TASS.

The resolution has not taken effect yet and can be appealed within the established deadlines.

The spokesperson for the Investigative Committee’s Moscow branch, Yulia Ivanova, told TASS on Thursday that Kavun was detained in Astrakhan and brought to Moscow for investigation.

Ivanova said that in 2015-2019 Kavun repeatedly traveled to the territory of another country with the aim of furnishing financial support for and delivering cash to the leaders and activists of an extremist organization outlawed in Russia. According to the available evidence, Kavun handed to the extremist organization no less than 120,000 rubles.
