Putin requests allocation of extra funds for development of satellites for drone control

The execution deadline is June 1, 2025

MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has directed to provide extra financing for development of low Earth orbit satellite groups for drone control, according to the list of assignments following a meeting on development of unmanned aerial vehicles on January 28.

The request is addressed to the government, the Roscosmos state-run corporation, and the Platform for the National Technological Initiative autonomous non-commercial entity.

"To ensure inclusion in national projects ‘Unmanned aerial vehicles’, ‘Data economy and digital transformation of the state’, the national project on advancement of space activities until 2030 and through 2036 and additional financing of events aimed at creation, development, and exploitation of low Earth orbit satellite groups of communication and navigation, ground-based space infrastructure facilities for expansion of the coverage area necessary for communication with unmanned aerial vehicles and their control," according to the assignment.

Additional funds should be also allocated for "ensuring uniform legal regulation of the use of mentioned spaces for introduction of digital technologies of communication, navigation, and monitoring for improving the security of flights by unmanned and piloted aircraft, including the formation of a list of interconnected requirements to low Earth orbit satellite groups that ensure the functioning of unmanned and piloted aircraft." Moreover, it is planned that the funds will be spent on the creation and implementation in the Russian Federation with the participation of involved federal executive bodies of a single system of identification of unmanned aerial vehicles used in the interests of the economy, foreseeing the possibility of identification of such aircraft using this system in real-time mode. The list also contains events aimed at ensuring the growth of the market of services provided using remotely sensed data.
