US working on combat spacecraft capable of wrecking Russian satellites, general warns

It is noted that though the US program closed in 1993, de-facto it still exists nowadays

MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. The United States is working on small-size space weapons that would be capable of knocking out Russian spacecraft, Chief of the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy General-Major Anatoly Nestechuk said on Thursday.

"What’s known as small combat spacecraft is under development, and certain samples have already been developed and are undergoing trials. They are able to perform a covert maneuver, closely approach our spacecraft and knock it out," the General said at a roundtable dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) of the US and the space militarization program.

Though the US program closed in 1993, de-facto it still exists nowadays, Nestechuk said. "The SDI program did not end; it continues in new transformations and positions," the General added.
