IZHEVSK, December 17. /ITAR-TASS/. The medical condition of Russian Mikhail Kalashnikov, creator of the legendary AK-47 assault rifle, remains grave, but stable, doctors say.

Kalashnikov’s son, Viktor, said on Tuesday he was not allowed to visit his 94-year-old father, as doctors feared any infection could affect him.

“They do not allow any visitors, doctors fear there can be an infection,” Viktor told Itar-Tass by phone.

Kalashnikov still “remains in a grave, but stable condition,” the press service of the Health Ministry of the Republic of Udmurtia told Itar-Tass. Doctors “conduct all necessary treatment and diagnostics procedures.”

Mikhail Kalashnikov was taken to an intensive therapy ward of the republican clinical and diagnostics center on November 17. He was diagnosed with gastrointestinal bleeding that was promptly stopped. Later he was operated on.
