MFA says Russia’s friendship with Latin America will get stronger in current context

Shchetinin said that Russia's relations with the states of the region are built on the basis of pragmatism and mutual benefit, the parties interact "on the widest range of issues"

ST. PETERSBURG, June 18. /TASS/. Alexander Shchetinin, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Latin American department, on Saturday said Moscow is confident that its friendship with Latin American nations will get stronger in the current context.

"Of course, we in no way put Latin Americans before a dilemma: On whose side are you?" he told TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. "What is important for us is the positive context, the positive development of relations that exists and that will develop. Latin America, in particular those countries (Venezuela and Cuba - TASS) are countries that are friendly to us. And friendship is worth a lot. And we will strengthen this friendship."

Shchetinin said that Russia's relations with the states of the region are built on the basis of pragmatism and mutual benefit, the parties interact "on the widest range of issues."

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum organized by the Roscongress Foundation is running from June 15 to 18. This year’s forum is dubbed ‘New Opportunities in a New World’. TASS serves as the event’s official photo hosting agency and the information partner.
