MOSCOW, April 24. /TASS/. Russia condemns the recent US strikes on a fuel terminal in Yemen as unjustified and inadmissible, and will continue efforts toward stabilizing the situation in the Arab country, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated.
On the evening of April 17, the United States launched air strikes on the Ras Isa oil terminal in Yemen’s Al Hudaydah Governorate.
"We view such actions as absolutely unjustified and inadmissible. <…> On our part, in coordination with our regional partners, mostly Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Iran, we will continue to work actively toward bringing the situation in and around Yemen back to normal as soon as possible," the Russian diplomat said at a news briefing.
According to Zakharova, Russia insists that the violence be stopped immediately as it calls on all parties involved to show restraint and avoid any steps that may risk further escalation and expansion of the zone of the hostilities.
"We believe that the path toward ensuring long-term stability in this area and finding a long-lasting solution to the protracted Yemen crisis lies in negotiations aimed at finding compromises to existing problems, with due account taken for the legitimate interests of all major political forces in Yemen, including the Ansar Allah movement," she concluded.
On March 15, the United States, on orders from President Donald Trump, began massive strikes against the targets of Houthis that control about a third of Yemen’s territory. According to the Central Command of the US Armed Forces, the operation is aimed at protecting American interests and ensuring freedom of navigation.
