Spoiling ballots at polling stations 'act of desperation' — CEC chairwoman

Earlier, Ella Pamfilova reported such incidents in 20 Russian constituent regions

MOSCOW, March 18. /TASS/. Attempts to spoil ballots during voting in the Russian presidential election were simply acts of desperation by citizens promoting anti-Russian sentiments, Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairwoman Ella Pamfilova said.

"Presupposing what the result [of the election] would be, they planned to pour various liquids on a mass scale into ballot boxes in order to damage them. It is an act of desperation, because their power is poor and meager in Russia," Pamfilova said on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

Earlier, Pamfilova reported such incidents in 20 Russian constituent regions. People tried to damage ballot boxes at 29 polling stations, including by pouring various fluids. Citizens also attempted to set ballot boxes on fire at eight polling stations. All perpetrators were detained.
