MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. The situation around the Gaza Strip and prospects for the restoration of the Iran nuclear deal were among the topics discussed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his visiting Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Russian foreign ministry said.
The ministers met on Tuesday during Abdollahian’s visit to Moscow to attend a meeting of the foreign ministers of the five Caspian littoral states.
"The ministers discussed a range of pressing international topics, including the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, prospects for the resumption of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to settle the situation around the Iranian nuclear program, as well as some regional topics of mutual interest," the ministry said.
The two top diplomats also discussed bilateral relations and steps to expand trade-and-economic and investment cooperation. "The sides reiterated mutual commitment to strengthen friendly Russian-Iranian relations and agreed to continue close contacts," it noted.
"The foreign ministers signed a Russian-Iranian declaration on ways and methods of counteracting, mitigating and compensating for the negative consequences of unilateral restrictive measures, which demonstrated the two countries’ readiness to coordinate their efforts to overcome the illegal sanctions pressure," the ministry added.
