West fresh out of ideas but still keeps imposing sanctions on Russia by default — Kremlin

Dmitry Peskov stressed that, "both in the United States and the European Union there is an understanding that the existing packages [of sanctions] are impairing the interests of the very countries that imposed these sanctions"

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. The West will continue to apply sanctions pressure on Russia, although it is already experiencing a deficit of new ideas and is facing problems itself, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"Both the United States and the European Union will continue to come up with new sanctions, although they are already short of ideas," the Kremlin spokesman said, commenting on US plans to introduce a new package of restrictions against Russia.

He stressed that, "both in the United States and the European Union there is an understanding that the existing packages [of sanctions] are impairing the interests of the very countries that imposed these sanctions."

"They are having some difficulties with putting together new packages [of sanctions], but we are in no doubt, and are not wearing rose-colored glasses, that sanctions pressure will continue, and there will be attempts to ramp it up," Peskov noted.

"In turn, our economy has adapted quite well to these conditions," the Russian presidential press secretary said.

"Moreover, we are trying to extract benefits from this for ourselves. In some ways, we are enjoying success in that," he added.
