Senior Russian diplomat sees risk of US interference in Turkish elections

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are due on May 14

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Russia’s special presidential envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, has admitted that Washington might interfere in the upcoming presidential election in Turkey.

"The United States always interferes in everything. Even when there is no election, it interferes, too. And not only in Turkey. There does not have to be a reason," he said, while answering a question from TASS on Monday.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are due on May 14. Four candidates will be participating in the race, but analysts predict that the main struggle will be between the incumbent, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the National Democratic Party, who was nominated as a single candidate from the opposition. Political analysts do not rule out a runoff.
