Russia adheres to concept of unacceptability of nuclear war — security official

"On its part, Russia maintains full dedication to this statement and in accordance with its content is convinced of the necessity to prevent any military confrontation between the countries that possess nuclear weapons," Nikolay Patrushev asserted

NEW DELHI, March 29. /TASS/. Russia is convinced that it is necessary to prevent any military confrontation between nuclear powers, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said at a meeting with his colleagues from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in New Delhi.

According to him, "the West’s provocative behavior in the context of the Ukraine crisis is fraught with catastrophic consequences" because it contradicts the essence of the January 3, 2022 joint statement made by the leaders of the "nuclear five" which upheld the tenet of the inadmissibility of a nuclear war.

"On its part, Russia maintains full dedication to this statement and in accordance with its content is convinced of the necessity to prevent any military confrontation between the countries that possess nuclear weapons," Patrushev asserted.

On January 3, 2022, the leaders of five nuclear powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council (Russia, the UK, China, the US and France) approved a joint statement. They emphasized that their top priority was preventing a war between countries with nuclear weapons and reducing strategic risks. The leaders asserted that there are no winners in a nuclear war and that it should never be unleashed.
