MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. The European Union has the United States to thank for ridding it of its dependence on Russian energy resources, as well as the fact that its energy costs have tripled, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday. He was speaking at the opening of the founding congress of the International Movement of Russophiles.
Lavrov recalled the recent statements made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Washington, who thanked the administration of US President Joe Biden for helping the EU "get rid of Russian fossil fuel dependency."
"But we need to look at this "thank you" through the lens of energy costs going up by more than three times," Lavrov stressed. Meanwhile, they [the EU] are trying to lay all the blame for such a situation in the EU on Moscow, he added.
The Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that one of the goals of the hybrid war of the West is to demonize Russia in the eyes of the world community.
"[This is] what is happening on the energy markets, when Russia was blamed for the troubles experienced by first of all the European society from a more than three-fold rise in electricity prices, including gas," the Russian Foreign Minister noted.
