Russian MFA says US makes allies sanction Russia to save Biden’s approval rating

It is noted that the current US administration "continues to follow the same course, encouraging its NATO allies and relying on such pro-active volunteers as Canada"

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Monday said the US encourages its allies to impose sanctions on Russia in a bid to improve the flagging approval ratings of US President Joe Biden.

"It’s clear that the White House, betting on the fight against Russia ‘to the last Ukrainian’ is addressing its priority goal to improve the flagging approval ratings of Joe Biden by demonstrating toughness with an eye to the election campaign, when and if he decides to announce his intention to run for a second term," she said in a statement. According to Zakharova, despite the doubts voiced in the United States about the effectiveness of sanctions, the current US administration "continues to follow the same course, encouraging its NATO allies and relying on such pro-active volunteers as Canada."
