Wang Yi tells Lavrov about China’s approaches to resolving Ukraine conflict — MFA

The two diplomats hailed the current state of Russian-Chinese relations, which continue "to develop dynamically in the wake of drastic changes in the international arena"

MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, told Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at their meeting about China’s view of the root causes of the Ukraine crisis and about approaches to its political resolution, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Wang Yi outlined China’s vision of the root causes of the Ukraine crisis as well as approaches to its political settlement. Lavrov positively assessed Beijing’s constructive line and confirmed the high degree of similarity between our assessments in this array of issues," the statement said.

The two diplomats hailed the current state of Russian-Chinese relations, which continue "to develop dynamically in the wake of drastic changes in the international arena."

"In light of the lifting of quarantine restrictions, they shared an opinion on the expediency of reviving the pace of face-to-face contact concerning all the fields of bilateral cooperation, including meetings at the highest and high levels," the ministry said.

Lavrov and Wang Yi touched upon a range of pressing international issues, including the Asia-Pacific Region, the Korean Peninsula and Afghanistan. The diplomats empathized the importance of fostering close foreign policy coordination at a variety of international platforms.

"They confirmed that third countries’ attempts to obstruct the healthy and dynamic progress of Russian-Chinese relations and to restrain our countries’ growth by imposing sanctions and other illegitimate methods were futile," the foreign ministry said.

"The sides noted with satisfaction how close or similar were the positions on all the issues they discussed," the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.
