Russia, China demonstrate readiness to defend each other's interests — Lavrov

The top diplomat also congratulated Wang Yi on his appointment to the high post of Director of the CCP Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission

MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Moscow and Beijing demonstrate cohesion and readiness to act in defense of each other's interests, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday during talks with Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and member of the CCP Politburo.

"Our relations are developing steadily and dynamically, and despite high turbulence in the global arena, we are demonstrating unity and readiness to defend each other's interests on the basis of respect for international law and the central role of the United Nations," the Russian minister said.

Lavrov also congratulated Wang Yi on his appointment to the high post of Director of the CCP Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission. "I am confident that your work on your new post will further strengthen the continuity of Russia-China relations of strategic interaction and comprehensive partnership," he added.

"We will do everything we can to both in contacts with you and with the new Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, Qin Gang, <..> to promote the solution of tasks formulated by our leaders," the Russian top diplomat stressed.
