Romanian security service removes suspicious envelope from Russian embassy in Bucharest

It was stated that the suspicious envelope came with the general Romanian post on Thursday

BUCHAREST, February 17. /TASS/. The Romanian Information Service, the country’s domestic intelligence agency, on Friday said its officers removed a suspicious envelope from the Russian embassy in Bucharest.

"A team of bomb engineers from the RSI arrived at the Russian embassy this afternoon to start a standard procedure when coming across an envelope that has been deemed suspicious," the agency, also known as the RSI, said in a statement. "Following a preliminary inspection, it was seized and safely delivered for examination. According to the procedure, the envelope will be examined at a specialized lab to remove any doubt of it containing any dangerous substances. The RSI has joined forces with the Interior Ministry in the case."

An embassy spokesman told TASS the suspicious envelope came with the general Romanian post on Thursday.

"When opened on Friday, it was found to contain some powdery substance," he said. "The staff at the diplomatic mission, acting through the Romanian police that guard the embassy, called for RSI representatives. The special service officers that arrived at the scene examined the envelope and, after finding it contained no explosives, took it with them to examine whether the powder that it contained poses any biological hazard.".
