West’s policy to ‘privatize’ international organizations transcends decency — Lavrov

In particular, the Russian Foreign Minister mentioned the OPCW and the OSCE

MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. The West’s policy aimed at ‘privatization’ of the secretariats of the United Nations, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) crosses any boundaries of decency and diplomatic ethics, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"We can now see the West’s line of privatization of the UN secretariats in the OPCW and the OSCE. This line transcends any barriers of decency in diplomatic and human ethics," the minister said at a working meeting with editors-in-chief of the foreign media accredited in Russia.

"[It is] when rules and procedures are being forcibly broken, when the OSCW Technical Secretariat is made to deal with a case expressly banned in the Chemical Weapons Convention. They are not authorized to establish those responsible, as their duty is just to identify whether or not a prohibited chemical weapon has been used. Anything else that they can carry out should be the subject of a consensus amendment to the convention," Lavrov noted.
