US-made Abrams tanks unlikely to appear in Ukraine, Russian envoy says

On January 25, the US announced its decision to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kiev

MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. Washington is not really going to deliver Abrams tanks to Kiev and they are unlikely to appear in Ukraine, head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control Konstantin Gavrilov told the Rossiya-24 TV channel on Monday.

"The Americans skillfully sucked Germany into this adventure by promising to deliver the Abramses and now they are basically forcing the Germans to deliver [the tanks]. And they are not really going [to supply] their Abramses and, I think, we are unlikely to ever see them in Ukraine," the diplomat said.

On January 25, the US announced its decision to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kiev. On the same day, the German government confirmed that it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and issue permits to other countries for their re-export. According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, the tanks will be delivered before "the end of March." The UK, Norway, Poland, Slovakia and France said they would send their tanks to Ukraine as well. The Kiev regime hopes to receive up to 140 tanks from 12 countries in the first batch.
