West would prefer Ukraine conflict drag on, Italian expert says

"The West seems to favor a scenario where the war will last for several years without decisive results, as Russian President Vladimir Putin will not reach Kiev, and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will not get Crimea back," the political scientist Roberto Rossi noted

MADRID, February 3. /TASS/. Western countries apparently prefer a prolonged conflict in Ukraine without any of the parties achieving decisive success, Italian political scientist Roberto Rossi said, as cited by the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.

Rossi believes that the conflict "will turn into a prolonged one that’s not going to end in 2023 and may take the form of positional warfare, not much different from World War I."

"The West seems to favor a scenario where the war will last for several years without decisive results, as [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will not reach Kiev, and [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky will not get Crimea back," the political scientist noted.

In his view, Western countries "seem to fear" Kiev’s decisive victory. Rossi also points out that "Ukraine was a declining country but gained strength" after the conflict broke out.
