Russia heard about five-party talks proposal only from media — Kremlin aide

It is added that no such proposal had been received through diplomatic channels, either

ASTANA, October 13. /TASS/. Russia has not received any proposals via official channels for holding five-party talks on Ukraine, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told the media on Thursday.

"I don't know if it was he (Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan - TASS), who suggested this. We saw it only in the newspapers. We have never heard about such an option from Erdogan," Ushakov said.

He added that no such proposal had been received through diplomatic channels, either.

"We do not refuse to have any contacts. But it is still unclear what is to be discussed," Ushakov said.

Earlier, on October 11, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said that Erdogan planned to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Astana the possibility of a diplomatic settlement in Ukraine and Ankara's mediation in this process.

On October 10, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had not received any specific proposals through diplomatic channels for talks by Moscow, Berlin, Washington, London and Paris in Turkey. Peskov stressed that before discussing any hypothetical possibility of such talks, it was essential "to have an understanding of the goals of such a meeting, to understand why and with whom such a meeting might take place and what its result might be.".
