Kremlin casts doubt on Macron’s bid to create new European bloc

"The creation of new blocs certainly won’t facilitate stability and predictability, as well as efforts to ease the tensions that we are going through, that’s for sure," Dmitry Peskov noted

MOSCOW, October 3. /TASS/. Plans by European countries to create new blocs will not contribute to stability, predictability, or efforts to ease the current tensions, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

"The creation of new blocs certainly won’t facilitate stability and predictability, as well as efforts to ease the tensions that we are going through, that’s for sure," Peskov noted, commenting on media reports about plans by Paris and London to establish a bloc to counter Russia and China.

Reuters reported earlier that French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Liz Truss sought to create a new bloc of nations to confront Moscow and Beijing. According to the news outlet, the bloc could particularly include European Union candidate countries.
